Hi everyone. I think it’s high time we had another blogathon. This year would have been the 100th birthday of the actress, director, writer and producer, Ida Lupino. I’d like to invite you all to join me in celebrating her centenary.

Ida was born in London, in 1918, she went on to make quite a name for herself in Hollywood. She became an actress, producer, writer and a director too.
She was a tough and determined woman. She had equal amounts of talent both before and behind the camera. I admire her for being a groundbreaking woman in a very male dominated industry. She really helped to pave the way for future generations of female directors.
I am hosting this blogathon to mark Ida’s centenary. I do hope you will all be able to join me to celebrate her life and career. You can write about Ida as an actress, director, producer or as a writer. You can also write about her entire career if you would like to.
You can enter more than one post if you wish to do so. I am allowing duplicates for the films she directed, but no more than two duplicates please for films that she starred in. Previously published posts you’ve written about Ida will also be accepted for this blogathon.
The blogathon will be held for one day only on the 12th of May, 2018.
Simply let me know what you would like to write about and leave me a link to your blog. Take one of the banners below and put it on your site somewhere to help spread the word. You can view the list of who is writing about what below.
Most importantly have fun writing! Let’s do Ida proud. Lets honour her talents and also the great contribution she made to the classic film era.

Maddy: This will probably be your strangest request regarding this blogathon. But I would like to talk about Lupino’s serving as director of three episodes of “Gilligan’s Island.” It was one of my favorite shows as a kid, and it certainly doesn’t seem like something she would have been involved in.

Not strange at all. I’ll add you to the list. Welcome aboard!

May I ask you to change my entry to *four* episodes? Lupino has been credited with directing the series’ pilot episode, so I will discuss that one as well.

I just HAVE to join this! Ida is one of my favorite people ever, and this is really good timing considering that one of her films, The Sea Wolf (1941), is being screened at the TCMFF this year. Could I please sign up to write about my experience watching it on the big screen? Thank you!

Hi Maddy, I always see the blogathon announcements too late. How long in advance are they usually announced? I also saw the Time Travel blogathon too late which I wanted to participate in.
Lupino is one of my favorites, like Stanwyck she could simply play anything. Can’t wait to read the entries.

Hey. I only announced this yesterday, so you are not late at all if you wish to join. You have until May 11th to write your entry if you want to join. Just let me know what you want to write about. Usually people announce a couple of months in advance, sometimes longer.

And I am stupid. I read March 12, not May 12. Yes, I will participate. I’ll let you know in the next couple of days what topic it will be.

Must be my lucky day. This is a month and a half old and my idea is still open. I’d like to take the turn she did as the star of Twilight Zone’s “The Sixteen Millimeter Shrine” as well as the turn she took at directing another Twilight Zone episode, “The Masks” The only person to do both jobs on the series.

They are both yours. Terrific episodes and it’s pretty shocking that she was the only woman to direct episodes of the series.

I just now got around to checking back on this. Just a minor correction, Ida Lupino is only an actress in the first entry. She only directed “The Masks” episode, not both of them.

You’re right! For some reason I always get convinced that she directed both, wishful thinking I guess LOL.

Hi. Don’t know how I missed this announcement. Over the years Ida has visited my blog 6 times. Time for lucky number 7. I’d like to work something up on The Light That Failed.

Actually, scratch that. A lightbulb went off over my head and I’d like to do Moontide instead. Thanks.

I’d like to participate in your blogathon honoring Ida Lupino. When I began watching classic films, while in high school, I chanced upon one of her films and I still remember it and loved her performance in it, Deep Valley, from 1947.

Great idea! But I guess I’ll have to read and not participate in this one. Since I have a Serling blog, I was naturally thinking I could cover one or both of her Twilight Zone episodes, but I see two other bloggers have it covered. I know you don’t mind SOME duplication, but I’d hate to overdo it. Maybe next time …

Hi Paul. You are very welcome to join and discuss both episodes or one if you wish. I don’t mind as I’ve only had two people pick the Twilight Zone to write about. If you don’t want to do that you are welcome to write about anything else she directed or starred in.
